Club de Lecture in Menlo Park

Alliance Française Silicon Valley offers two book clubs to discuss French-language books: the Club de Lecture in Menlo Park, and the Cercle de Lecture in Los Gatos.

Feel free to join us for the discussions even if you didn’t read the book (s). The discussions are in French. It’s free and a great way to practice your French so come join us!

The club de lecture at Menlo Park meets on the third Thursday of every month, at 7:00pm, in the Menlo Park Center located at 585 Glenwood Ave, Menlo Park (Language Pacifica building).

The book discussions are led by two volunteers: Jane Murdoch and Marie Friess.

During each meeting, two books are discussed in French: an easy one as well as a more difficult one. Each book is labeled with stars (*, **, ***) which indicate the level of difficulty according to the vocabulary, sentence length, syntax, and number of pages.

Each book discussion starts with a short presentation (about ten minutes) by members of the club.

All the books are available at, and are bought by participants.
Books which are discussed are by French or Francophone authors.

The Fall 2016/ Spring 2017 selection includes twelve books chosen from a list of thirty pre-selected books.
