-
14107 Winchester Blvd # T, Los Gatos

To mark the publication of Le Brasier, AFB invites you to meet Charlotte Attry, journalist, author, and Executive Director of the Alliance Française de Berkeley. She will present her most personal book yet, a poignant account of grief, love, and rebuilding, published by Éditions du Rocher.

The Story

Clara and Simon have loved each other since they were teenagers. After ten years together, the birth of their first child was meant to mark a new chapter in their love story. But their son, Paul, dies just six days after his birth, taking with him every promise of the future.

Devastated, they make their way through the ashes: shock, anger, guilt… One question becomes unavoidable: how can they go on loving each other?

Le Brasier tells the story of love tested by the unimaginable. It explores shattered motherhood, a relationship on the brink, the awkwardness of friends and family, administrative absurdities, the violence of memory, and the need, despite everything, to keep living. A powerful and deeply sensory text, as much about loss as it is about rebirth, as much about collapse as reconstruction.

The Author

A journalist and author, Charlotte Attry worked in French television for more than ten years, notably for France 2, France 3, TF1, and M6, while also contributing to print and digital media. Since 2018, she has published books exploring major transitions in women’s lives and their deeply personal impact.

Executive Director of the Alliance Française de Berkeley since 2024, she draws inspiration from her own story in Le Brasier.
